West Virginia town receives funds to upgrade water system

The United States Department of Agriculture has granted the town of Rainelle, West Virginia, with a USDA loan to assist with upgrades to its water system.
Rainelle was approved for a 2.25 percent interest, 40-year Water and Waste Disposal loan of just over $2.6 million through the agency's Rural Development program.
With the funds, the town plans to repair leaks, replace outdated filters at its treatment plant and perform leak detection and pre-treatment processes.
"It has been a long, long journey, but with the USDA loan, we are finally ready to begin cleaning up the town's water," said mayor Andrea Pendleton, as quoted by WVNS-TV
Congressman Nick J. Rahall added in a release that the upgrades will benefit the nearly 1,000 residents and businesses in the Rainelle area, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
Renovations and upgrades are expected to begin in January 2012. Phase I of the process will include the installation of 11,000 feet of water pipes to upgrade the town's distribution system, while Phase II will involve extending water service to the town of Charmco, WVNS-TV adds.
