Summer to be a big boon for small business hiring
5/22/2011
Small businesses are preparing for the busy summer months by bringing on new employees, with nearly one-quarter of entrepreneurs (21 percent) planning to hire new workers, according to a new CareerBuilder report.
Moreover, as many as 57 percent of small businesses plan to hire for permanent positions. The top positions that companies are looking to fill include office support, customer service, research, engineer and information technology. Unemployed Americans still have plenty of time to land summer jobs as well - according to the survey, as many as 65 percent of companies don't complete their summer hiring until May or June.
"More than half of employers reported they treat summer jobs as extended job interviews," said Brent Rasmussen, president of CareerBuilder North America. “Summer employment is a great way for workers to network, test-drive different career paths and earn permanent placement within an organization."
With greater access to commercial loans, small business owners can finally afford to hire new employees to keep up with greater work demands.
