South Carolina governor promises more help for SMBs is coming

Small businesses account for the majority of new jobs created each year, which is precisely why South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley wants to help out small businesses in the area. She figures if small companies prosper, the job market will grow and so will the local economy.

The key to this is to provide better support through South Carolina's state agencies, Haley told the Herald Online. Agency staff members don't always understand the rights and needs of SMBs, which can lead to misinformation or problems going unresolved.

"On Haley's watch, the state has gained 884 jobs and $442 million in economic investments, and the state unemployment rate fell to 9.9 percent from 10.7 percent since January," the source notes.

The Herald Online also noted, "Haley attributed state job growth to its right-to-work status and criticized a lawsuit the National Labor Relations Board filed against Boeing for building its new plant in North Charleston."

Small business prospects are looking up in other states as well. For example, Chicago businesses are gaining greater access to commercial loans, with Chase bank boosting small business lending by 24 percent.
