SCORE and Spike TV team up to help small businesses

Small business owners have a new information and advice resource: reality television. SCORE, a nonprofit organization that works with the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide resources for business owners and entrepreneurs, is partnering with cable television network Spike TV to create the "Toolbox for Success" program.
Spike TV is helping small businesses with its new show "Bar Rescue." The program sends nightlife industry expert Jon Taffer into failing bar establishments to rescue the businesses by augmenting operations and menus to maximize profits, teaching management skills and helping to create a successful image. The series will air 10 different "rescues" over the season.
The partnership between the network and SCORE will bring the expertise of food industry consultants to fledgling or faltering restaurants and bars, as well as those seeking information on basic small business practices such as how to apply for a commercial loan.
"Together we've created a free tool kit designed to give entrepreneurs an edge to not only stay alive, but thrive during these recessionary times," said SCORE CEO Ken Yancey. The Toolbox for Success is a free service, and is available through the SCORE website.
