Small businesses and employment rates have become a hot topic in politics lately, and a new nomination by the White House could signal a new effort to tackle unemployment and the down economy.
Alan Krueger has been selected by president Barack Obama's administration as a candidate for the Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers. The Princeton University Bendheim Professor of Economics and Public Affairs, and longtime faculty member, Krueger was once the U.S. Treasury Departments' chief economist.
"I am pleased to nominate Alan Krueger to lead the Council of Economic Advisers," noted President Obama. "As one of this country’s leading economists, Alan has been a key voice on a vast array of economic issues for more than two decades."
The CEA chairman advises the president on economic policy, both domestic and international. As creating jobs through effective initiatives, regulatory and tax changes have become a major push for both the current administration and potential candidates for the White House and congress.
The administration has made small businesses a major focus in recent months, with more money allocated for commercial funding through the Small Business Jobs Act has led to a number of forums and meetings across the country.
