Joining Forces and SCORE to collaborate for military families

Thanks to the White House's Joining Forces initiative and the small business experts at SCORE, servicemembers and veterans have a new resource in exploring entrepreneurship.

The Joining Forces program was created by First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden. The initiative aims to help military families with education, employment and health, as deployments and reassignments can take a toll on the careers and schooling of servicemembers and their spouses and children.

By collaborating with SCORE, the Joining Forces program will bring resources, mentoring and guidance to military members and families interested in business ownership.

SCORE is a nonprofit organization that fosters U.S. small businesses, helping them find and procure the commercial funding needed to get started, design a successful business plan and maintain and expand existing ventures. The organization is a partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, and more than 13,000 volunteers offer counseling services to up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

The training and skills learned in the military can be ideal foundations for small business opportunities in many different industries. The partnership with Joining Forces and SCORE can help servicemembers make full use of their knowledge and the resources of the many mentors in the program.
