Now that small business lending practices are easing up, many entrepreneurs can afford to hire new employees. The American Express Open Forum recently made some suggestions to small business owners for hiring the ideal employees.
The key, explains the source, is to not rely on a single interview. According to surveys conducted, the chemistry felt between an interviewee and the interviewer is not often a good indicator of whether the candidate would be suitable for an open position.
"To really predict how an employee will perform (and act) once they're hired, you need to use a structured interview with questions that have been validated as good predictors of performance," explains the source.
Behavioral interviews may be better for this purpose and are available in a variety formats, ranging from web-based questionnaires to pencil-and-paper tests.
According to recent reports from the National Federation of Independent Business, more companies plan to hire employees over the course of the next 12 months, so ironing out a dependable interviewing process is crucial to finding the best help.
