Sony's recent PlayStation security breach proved that if even the largest companies are susceptible to internet crimes, small businesses need to be even more careful. Fortunately, small businesses won't have to take out commercial loans to bolster their internet security - the Federal Communications Commission is looking to help educate these companies.
According to the FCC, a cyber attack costs the average small business nearly $200,000 - a significant chunk of money for any company. The FCC unveiled a new website on Monday that contains a tip sheet and other actionable advice that small business owners can leverage to improve their security.
"We have been focused for some time on the opportunities for broadband to grow our economy and to help small businesses expand in the 21st century,” FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski told the Daily Caller. "It’s very important as we do what we can to make sure small businesses understand the steps they can take to protect themselves in the cyber world."
With more companies looking to upgrade their equipment this year, internet security should be a top priority.
