Department of Health touts healthcare reform benefits in Iowa

A new healthcare reform law is sweeping Marshalltown, Iowa, and the local director of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services is actively looking to ensure that local businesses know how the legislation can benefit them, the Central Iowa Times-Republic reports.

Judy Baker, director of the organization in Iowa, has observed there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding the reform law. She wants to make sure that local business owners are aware of the benefits that can come from offering workers health insurance.

"Preventative medicine is one focus of the new health care reform law. All new health plans must cover preventative services without charging a deductible, co-pay or co-insurance. Mammograms, colonoscopies, immunizations and diabetes blood pressure screenings are just a few of those services required to be provided with no cost sharing from the patient," notes the source.

To maximize their funding, many small business owners applied for health insurance incentives. This enabled them to get tax credits in return for providing their employees with health insurance.
