Considerations before franchising a business

With small business lending conditions growing more favorable for entrepreneurs, many company owners have seriously begun contemplating which way to go with their organizations. For some entrepreneurs, franchising is quickly becoming a real growth option.

However, as the Sydney Morning Herald points out, not all businesses will make a successful franchise. Sometimes companies are only profitable because they are reaching the right audience at the right location at the right time. These organizations would not necessarily be able to repeat their success elsewhere.

"Ask yourself truthfully: 'Could an intelligent person with the right attributes and supported by training and well-designed systems reproduce the success I'm enjoying now?'" suggests the source. "Your prospective franchisees should not need to acquire heavily specialized new skills."

However, the franchising business is expected to grow significantly over the next few years, so if entrepreneurs do have a business model that could be converted well, franchising is something to seriously consider. In particular, the health foods and frozen dessert segments are supposed to be particularly profitable, according to franchising experts.
