Communication is integral to a prosperous work environment

Now that small business lending is less of a hindrance, many business owners are ramping up production and need to hire more employees as a result. American Express OPEN Forum writer Aimee Groth suggests now is the perfect time to look at the work environment and try to make it more inviting for potential new employees.

As the source notes, when communication breaks down, so does productivity. The ideal workplace needs to facilitate communication and teamwork, so new employees should be educated about their position within the company - this will help them better adjust to their new positions.

Similarly, Groth suggests having regular meetings. "Not to say that these meetings need to be long, but having a 15-minute pow-wow at least once a week to praise employees and discuss any concerns can dramatically improve morale."

With the summer approaching, hiring is expected to jump. One in five business owners (21 percent) expect to bring in more employees for some extra summer help, according to a recent CareerBuilder survey.
