Boosting productivity during downtime

While the upcoming summer months are generally busy for most businesses, that is not always the case for the rest of the year. Many companies have slow seasons when they aren't hitting peak volumes.

While businesses may not be hitting highs, entrepreneurs shouldn't be slacking off during these slow seasons. As the American Express OPEN Forum recently suggested, there are a number of things business owners could be doing to remain active.

For example, entrepreneurs should always be looking for recognition in their industry. Off seasons are the perfect time to do this - entrepreneurs could enter their companies in award competitions or sign up to give seminars. This will make the business look like a thought leader within its sector.

Off seasons are also great for reestablishing connections. "Some people work hard to keep their personal and professional lives separate. But the way we see it, every new relationship is an opportunity for personal and professional growth: You never know where you're going to find your next client or business partner," notes the source.

Small business owners should also use the downtime to organize their financial plans. This will help them manage their commercial loans more efficiently during peak seasons, when bookkeeping is often the last thing on their minds.
