America's favorite small business to be chosen this fall
8/16/2011
Small business is big business in the United States. Companies on a smaller scale, from in-home childcare centers to mid-size construction firms, employ almost half of private sector U.S. workers and are the vast majority of American businesses. Starting one's own venture is the American dream, and entrepreneurs are glorified from the numerous reality television shows following their pursuits to politicians attempting to win their favor.
Dell Computers, Microsoft and MasterCard are joining forces to dub one lucky company "America's Favorite Small Business." Interested entrants are currently uploading a video profile of their venture and an explanation of its merits as a potential favorite, and throughout September, a judging panel will select 10 finalists.
The winner will receive a prize package worth $75,000, which includes Dell and Microsoft products and services in addition to a $50,000 prepaid MasterCard business account. As the competition is only open to companies with 25 or fewer employees, the influx of commercial funding could be enough to expand operations.
Businesses from clothiers to innovative websites and event planners are already registered, and more are sure to follow. The final judging will be open to the public, giving the winner the true title of the country's favorite small business.
