A small business resource in East Texas

East Texas entrepreneurs can gain valuable experience and knowledge this fall through the Kilgore College Small Business Development Center.

In a partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration and in conjunction with local banks, the college is hosting an eight-class course called "How to Start and Operate a Business in East Texas."

"If you are looking to start a small business or learn how to successfully operate a current business, this course is for you," said SBDC Director Brad Bunt. "After 15 years of offering this course in Longview, many people have found the guidance and direction to successfully operate a small business."

The college's Longview campus hosts a number of adult education classes, many of which (including the upcoming small business seminar) carry continuing education credits and offer a certificate upon completion of the program. According to the college, the courses are meant to help local entrepreneurs with management skills and handling business operations, as well as financing issues such as commercial funding and taxes.

"This course has a high success rate among small business owners," Bunt continued. He created this year's program with Sandra Russell, a certified public accountant and a business owner herself, and local experts and professionals will offer advice as guest speakers.
